Fees for ACS Certification and for HPC Registration

Registration as a Clinical Scientist is a two-stage process for UK applicants.

Initially, you must apply for the ACS Certificate of Attainment.

ACS Fees are subsidised by its constituent professional bodies for its current members and you are advised to join the appropriate body to gain support in your training as well as this fee reduction.

ACS fees are as follows (fee for applications received after January 1 2010 in brackets) -

Applicants who are current members of ACS Member Professional Bodies:

  • 4-year route                      - £150.00 (£155)
  • 6-year route                      - £190.00 (£195)
  • Developing Sciences     - £250.00 (£255)

Applicants who are not current members of ACS Member Professional Bodies:

  • 4-year route                      - £275.00 (£280)
  • 6-year route                      - £275.00 (£280)
  • Developing Sciences     - £325.00 (£330)

Single Competency Re-submission (all applicants) - £75.00 (£80)

ACS fees are reviewed annually and published on this website.

This does not cover any travel expenses to an interview.

Payment of ACS fees must by cheque or banker's order.  Debit and credit card payments are NOT accepted.

Internet bank transfer is possible - please contact the ACS Office for deatils.

Once obtained, you must then apply with your ACS certificate to the HPC to obtain registration.

HPC fees are as follows (correct summer 2009)

  • The renewal fee is set at £76 per year, an increase of £4 on previous rates.
  • Clinical Scientist applicants who initially register following ACS assessments will pay a non-refundable scrutiny fee of £53 on first registration plus the basic registration fee.
  • The basic cost of registration for applicants will be £38 per year for the first two years from initial registration as long as an application is made within two years of the ACS qualification date.  Applicants applying after two years will pay the full fee of £76 per year.
  • Those applying directly to HPC under the international/EEA route will face a scrutiny fee of £420.
  • Those applying for readmission to the register having voluntarily de-registered for a period (due to prolonged illness, maternity leave, work abroad, etc) will have a fee of £191, which will include the first year of registration.
  • A restoration fee of £191, which includes the first year of registration, will be charged for those requesting re-registration following lapsing or failure to renew at the set time.
  • However, a readmission fee will be waived for those clinical scientists who fail to renew HPC registration by October 1st 2009 if they receive an application for readmission within one month of registrant lapsing from the Register i.e. by November 1st 2009.  Applicants will still need to pay the registration fee of £76 per year.

HPC fees are reviewed annually and normally amended each April.

Please see www.hpc-uk.org for the latest information and methods of payment.
