HPC registration fees increase so that new registrants pay a one-off £53 scrutiny plus an annual registration fee of £38 for each of the first two years of registration. Those registering initially between June and October 2009 will not need to renew until 2011.
Renewal fees for the others payable in October 2009 will be £76 per annum. There is an additional penalty of £115 for those renewing late after November 1.
The Health Professions Council (HPC) fees increase comes into effect today, 1 April 2009.
The summary below is for the benefit of readers, the full details and conditions can be found on the HPC website.
The first professions to be affected by the fees increase will be paramedics and orthoptists as both professions are required to renew their registration by 31 August 2009 in order to continue practising.
The HPC fee increases affecting Clinical Scientists are as follows:
- The renewal fee is set at £76 per year, an increase of £4.
- Clinical Scientist applicants who initially register following ACS assessments will pay a non-refundable scrutiny fee of £53 on first registration plus the basic registration fee.
- The basic cost of registration for applicants will be £38 per year for the first two years from initial registration as long as an application is made within two years of the ACS qualification date. Applicants applying after two years will pay the full fee of £76 per year.
- Those applying directly to HPC under the international/EEA route will face a scrutiny fee of £420.
- Those applying for readmission to the register having voluntarily de-registered for a period (due to prolonged illness, maternity leave, work abroad, etc) will have a fee of £191, which will include the first year of registration.
- A restoration fee of £191, which includes the first year of registration, will be charged for those requesting re-registration following lapsing or failure to renew at the set time.
- However, a readmission fee will be waived for those clinical scientists who fail to renew HPC registration by October 1st 2009 if they receive an application for readmission within one month of registrant lapsing from the Register i.e. by November 1st 2009. Applicants will still need to pay the registration fee of £76 per year.
